To groom a quality choir that is united, inspiring and sings in harmony and to develop in choir members’ self-expression, leadership, self-confidence, musicianship as well as self-discipline through the ample opportunities and the exposure given.

What do we do

The choir of CHIJ Our Lady Queen of Peace has been one of the pioneering CCAs since the school was established in 1955. These young choristers come together with a strong passion and love for singing. Some of them join the choir as early as in Primary Two and all choristers work together with their fellow peers of different age groups. Their voices blend together in one harmonious melody. They train hard under the astute tutelage of their instructor, Ms Angila Tan, who continuously set higher standards for them as they learn and perform songs of different language and culture, widening their repertoire and executing deeper and more impactful melodies to the audience. The choir has participated numerous competitions and were invited to do public performances.

Girls who enjoy singing are encouraged to take up this popular CCA. The members have participated in events such as the year-end-concerts, Founder’s Day and 165
th Anniversary of CHIJ Mission in Singapore, to name a few. Choir members are taught sight-singing skills and vocal techniques which are conducted in a fun and engaging manner. They are introduced to a wide repertoire of songs and various performing art forms.

Concert Team: Choristers would have mastered basic musician skills, vocal techniques and wide repertoire of songs. They will then showcase what they have learnt through performing in school events and some external events.

Competition Team (Selected P2 to P6 students): They will undergo more intensive trainings to hone their vocal skills. They will be involved in various choral workshops carried out by renowned local/international conductor. They will also represent the school in SICF and SYF respectively in alternative years. These competitions will give them valuable exposure in their musicianship and develops in them commitment, diligence and resilience.
